Beautiful hike--abundance of native Hawaiian plants and potential to see indigenous animals especially birds, including 'io (Hawaiian hawk), 'elepaio (flycatcher bird), and some honey creepers (e.g., 'i'iwi). Not particularly challenging, you can actually run along parts of the trail with little trouble. There a couple of ponds at the end of the trail where you can swim (just don't swallow the water...read: leptospirosis). Then hit Tamura's afterward for snacks, beer and poke. Noice.
