The East side of the Palisades is one of the best hikes in the Chattahoochee River NRA. Three very scenic shoals along the Hooch (Chattahoochee river), multiple ridges, lots of nature and beautiful hardwoods.
Be sure and get off of the loop and travel to the northern most path along the river. You will be treated to the ruins of a 19th century mill, a small stone bridge and a bamboo forest with huge 30 feet stalks many easily 6 inches in diameter. If you find yourself in the bamboo forest on a windy day you will be treated to a musical rhythm as the large stalk knock together.
