Visiting Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area today is much like seeing Illinois as it was over a century ago, when prairie covered nearly all of the state. Big bluestem, Indian grass and switchgrass thrive here, as do broad-leafed flowering plants known as forbs. At times the grasses can reach 8 to 12 feet in height. All the seasons have unique beauty to behold at the Goose Lake Prairie. The area offers 7 miles of hiking trails to view the Goose Lake Prairie in all its glory.

Lots of rivers and hiking paths. Also a prime spot for hunters and loud boaters. It's a nice place if you can get it to yourself, but it's also extremely popular and overcrowded at peak times. Worth repeat visits, just know that you won't be alone.
