There isn't much I can say is a downside to camping anywhere in Yosemite. The larger campgrounds obviously have a lot of other campers, but you don't have time to worry about that. The place is stunning. I've camped in Yosemite since I was a toddler, and remember riding around the trails in a backpack carrier on my father's back. When I was maybe 5 yrs old at Bridal Veil, mom woke us in the middle of the night to hear wolves in the valley. That's a treasured memory I've carried for a lifetime. We went every year for a long time. My last trip there I was 18 and I hiked the Glacier point trail. My next trip will be in about 2 years with plans to hike the Half Dome Trail. Since it has been so long, I can't comment on the quality of specific campgrounds but Yosemite has a good reputation and I would never expect less than I experienced in years past. Bridalveil has choices of individual family, or group sites, so you have options. USE the bear boxes and your car to store food when you are in Yosemite, PLEASE!! They are real, they are there, and they will take your food. They don't care if it's daylight and you are standing right there. If it's not in hand and you're not cooking it or eating it, put it away. Being a responsible camper helps others have a better time as well.
