Hiking in South Carolina (SC) offers a wide variety of terrain to enjoy from the sandy coastline in the east to the foothills and Upstate region in the west.

Eastern South Carolina is all about the coastal hiking with the grand strand stretching up the coast and providing plenty of beautiful beaches to hike on. Enjoy sandy trails that weave around sand dunes and overlook the gorgeous Atlantic Ocean. The vast coastal plain offers plenty of unique trails that meander along rivers and through marshes and swampland. Western South Carolina brings a change in terrain in the Piedmont Region where trails traverse rolling hills and meander through scenic forests. Upstate paths explore the Blue Ridge Mountains in Northwest South Carolina, where hikers can climb steep trails to enjoy mountain top views. Sumter National Forest is a popular recreation area--here hikers will find trails that wander through Sumter's vast wilderness and highlight the 22 pristine waterfalls in the area. You can even find hiking trails near cities like Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville.
