This is one of the longest and most remote sections of the Benton MacKaye Trail in the state of Georgia. According to the BMT Association, it "follows or is closely parallel to the western rim of the Blue Ridge and the Tennessee Valley Divide for the duration of this section." The trail also crosses the top of Flat Top Mountain.
This section is rated as "most difficult."
