Description

There is a maximum of eight campers to a single site and a maximum of 14 days continuous use. Hitching racks are available in the group campground. Campfires restricted to fire rings.

Activities

Fishing: With a maximum depth of 60 feet of cool water Kinkaid Lake offers anglers an opportunity to fish for muskee and walleye. Anglers seeking bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill find much success while enjoying the rugged beauty and tranquility of this 2,674 acre man-made lake. There is no restriction on boat motor size on this lake.Hiking: There are approximately 15 miles of trails that are easily accessed from either the hike-in or group campground. Hunting: The rugged terrain with an abundance of oak and hickory mast surrounding Kinkaid Lake provides perfect habitat for deer and turkey. Johnson Creek campground is situated in an ideal location to allow hunters easy access to prime hunting. Hunting is prohibited within 150 yards of the Recreation Area.Swimming: The beach offers the only regulated swim area on Kinkaid Lake with 3 miles of No Wake, however no lifeguard services are provided.Boating: The only developed boat launching opportunity for the west side of Kinkaid Lake is available at the Johnson Creek Recreation Day Use area. Boater can access the lake using two paved ramps. A paved parking area at the site nicely accommodates vehicles pulling trailers. Winter Use: As fall approaches and the temperature of the lake lowers, most activities wind down. Camping is still available at Johnson Creek for hunters, horseback riders and winter camping enthusiasts. Leaf-off conditions throughout the winter allow hikers and horseback riders to enjoy the beautiful rock formations and maybe catch a glimpse of a white-tail deer or a wild turkey. Winter is also a perfect time to enjoy the out of doors without the heat and humidity.
