Virginia (VA) camping offers a diverse range of terrain from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay to the Cumberland Mountains.

Western Virginia mountain camping is highlighted by the Appalachian Mountain range. George Washington and Jefferson National Forests offer campers remote, primitive tent sites near places like the Appalachian Trail, while also offering family-friendly campsites near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Campers can find sites under tree canopy of old growth forests in the Blue Ridge Mountains, or they can start a campfire at a secluded campsite near the base of Mount Rogers, the highest point in Virginia. Southwest Virginia also provides wooded campgrounds in parks within the Cumberland Mountains.

Central Virginia has campsites in the Piedmont where low foothills provide quiet sites near lakes and streams. Eastern Virginia is all about coastal camping with scenic beaches stretching out along the Atlantic Ocean. Find places to camp along the Chesapeake Bay as well, and enjoy the view of the calm waters while shaded under the trees. Head north up the Potomac River and discover family-friendly campgrounds near the DC area that accommodate tents as well as RVs and campers. You can even find camping opportunities near cities like Roanoke, Richmond, and Norfolk.
