Description

Scenic section stretching from the border of Smoky Mountains National Park to Hot Springs, NC. Shelters along this route include Groundhog Creek, Roaring Fork, Walnut Mountain, and Deer Park shelters.

From Asheville, take I-40 west to Tennessee border. Take the first Tennessee exit and look for parking along gravel road.

Cool section of the AT with a grassy bald near the start at I-40 and a Jesuit hostel at the other end at Hot Springs (don't know if it still exists).
