Description
This section of trail heads almost directly north to the edge of Smoky Mountains National Park. Shelters along this route include Brown Fork Gap Shelter and Cable Gap Shelter.

From Robbinsville, head east a couple miles on NC highway 143 to the trail crossing near Stecoah Gap. From Bryson City, take US 19/74 West to NC 28. Take NC 28 north, turn left onto NC highway 143 (west) to trail crossing.Trail length
