Muir Woods is truly magical. Being raised in the desert, although very beautiful, I can appreciate the unique change in scenery. If you are visiting San Fran and need to get away from the busy city and over-priced tourist attractions GO TO MUIR WOODS! You will absolutely not regret it. The drive to Muir Woods from the Bay Area is a very windy road that takes you through the breathtaking hills of San Fransisco and into eventually into a thick forest. My advice...Make sure your looking out the window or you might be sick before you even reach Muir. The first parking lot is small but there is a second overflow parking lot if you keep going past the visitor center. We happened to go on a Sunday which was very busy, but we waited around and found a spot. I believe the fee to get into the park is about $5-7 a person plus $2 for a map if you didn't already print one out at home. My boyfriend and I both wore a light sweatshirt and shorts (that's if you plan on breaking a sweat)I would suggest pants in this time of the year if you are just browsing. Muir Woods is lush with greenery even in February. There are ancient, towering redwoods everywhere, beautiful creeks, the ground is covered in moss, and the air is crisp and pure. It would be safe to assume that if fairies were real, this is were you could find them. My boyfriend and I hike and trail run quite frequently so we decided to make a 6 mile loop out of a couple of trails. We made our first right onto Ocean View Trail, then took that to Lost Trail, then to Camp Eastwood trail, and followed that down to the main trail to the visitors center. It was about a 7 or 8 mile loop but well worth the work. Along the way you will see a variety of different mushrooms scattered around. Although I wouldn't recommend eating them they are cool to take pictures of. There are also shorter and also very beautiful and scenic trails for less experienced hikers. Being well traveled in the eastern U.S. I would say this is one of the top 5 most beautiful hikes we have ever done. I have posted a few pictures for viewing.

If you're visiting San Francisco this is one hike you won't want to miss. Redwood trees are the main attraction but you'll be amazed at what you find on these easy hiking trails. Add Muir Woods to your trail wishlist now.
