There are 3 shortish nature trails and one longish hiking/biking trail at Santee. The nature trails are great but the 7.5 mile (not 6) hiking/biking trail is Way great. Start out at the trailhead on the right as you enter Santee Park. The trail is really an out-and-back with a few smaller loops within the passage. Regardless, this is a super trail that will give you some nice glimpses of Lake Marion.
The trail can be enjoyed at any time of year but I like doing it in the fall, and I like spending a whole day along it’s length (walking). A small pack with a thermos of coffee and a sandwich or three, and I’m in Santee Heaven on this trail. Beauty!
Meanwhile, back at the park…enjoy the well maintained facility. Bring yer camping stuff, take a boat tour, take some pictures, have a picnic, play tennis, or go fishing.
I’m not much of a camping-cabin guy but I’ll have to admit, the cool looking cabins at Santee sparked my interest. ..especially the ones on the pier thingy. Outrageous!
Park staff at Santee is very friendly, too. Sweet!
