Posted by: MountainMan on September 17, 2008Description
Many trails to choose from in the park ranging from forested lake trails to the most popular mountain trail that takes you to the summit of Stone Mountain. The mountain trail traverses the exposed granite monolith starting in a thin pine forest and eventually gives way to a completely exposed and sometimes steep ascent. Bring plenty of water on hot days!Directions
From Atlanta, take US 78 East approximately 5 miles past I-285. Look for exit signs directing you into the park. $8 per car entry fee as of 9/17/08.Guidebooks

This is a great place to go with the family. The hike up the mountain is steep. The top of the mountain is dome shaped and you can wonder around most of it. There are only a few small trees near the top which makes for an unobstructed view of Atlanta and the surrounding area.

They have a lot of touristy things to do here, like shopping, but my favorite thing to do is to hike up Stone Mountain. It is a pretty vertical climb to the top but you will be rewarded with an excellent view on top of an exposed granite mountain. They also have a laser light show in the summers which is pretty cool.
