Description

An idea conceived in 1994, The Palmetto Trail is an ambitious South Carolina project connecting the Atlantic coast with the Blue Ridge mountains. When completed, the trail will cover over 425 continuous miles and run through 14 counties.

290 miles are completed and currently available for public use.



PALMETTO TRAIL SECTION 18 - BLUE WALL PASSAGE:



14 mile path connecting an unfinished section and the Poinsett Reservoir Passage. Rolling hills, and a very steep ascent through The Nature Conservancy’s Blue Wall Preserve. Blue Wall Passage travels around Lake Lanier and passes through Vaughns Gap. Hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking (mountain biking prohibited from mile marker 10.5 to mile marker 14). Easy trail through miles 0 - 6 miles. Moderately difficult trail through miles 6 - 12. Strenuous trail through miles 12 - 14. Wet conditions may increase difficulty.

Directions

From Exit 1 on I 26, drive southwest on SC 14 to Landrum.



To the Blue Wall Preserve: From Landrum drive northwest on US 176 and turn left onto West Lakeshore Drive. Drive past the lake and the preserve is on the right.



To the Foothills Equestrian Center: From Landrum drive northeast on SC 14 and bear left onto S-42-349. The center is on the left after you pass I-26.
