An idea conceived in 1994, The Palmetto Trail is an ambitious South Carolina project connecting the Atlantic coast with the Blue Ridge mountains. When completed, the trail will cover over 425 continuous miles and run through 14 counties.290 miles are completed and currently available for public use.
PALMETTO TRAIL SECTION 10 - CAPITAL CITY PASSAGE:
7.5 mile path connecting the Fort Jackson Passage with the Peak to Prosperity Passage. Travels through Columbia. Urban sidewalks, Capital Building lawn, and Riverfront Park. Hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking. Easy trail during good conditions.
Directions
Eastern trailhead: Begin on Jackson Blvd. at the main entrance to Fort Jackson.Western trailhead: Begin at Riverfront Park at Huger and Laurel Streets.
