Description

Ellicott Rock Wilderness trail follows the Chattooga River, up-stream, for .2 miles. Spoonauger Falls trail sign will appear on your right. From there, the trail to the falls is only .1 miles but it very steep. Staying on the switchbacks makes it a little easier, and it is a good practice for errosion control. Total out-and-back mileage is actually less than 1 mile. .6 miles to be exact.

From the city of Walhalla, South Carolina drive north on SC 28 8.5 miles to SC 107; then turn right. Follow SC 107 for 8.9 miles. Then turn left on Forest Service Road 708 (Burrells Ford Road). Descend on FS-708 3.2 miles. Ellicott Wilderness Trailhead will be on your right. Park on the side of the road.

Nice little side trip off the Ellicott Rock Wilderness Trail. Short climb using the switchbacks. The trail is in good shape but care should be exercised around the falls. Footing can be tricky.
It is highly recommended to stay on the trail. Switchback shortcuts will destroy ground vegetation and is down right dangerous.
Take advantage of the short trip as a quick but enjoyable afternoon family outing. Nice, quiet area!
