Description

This is a beautiful little campground that is pretty close to town and yet is nestled in a wild valley below the mighty mountain peaks with hardly a hint of civilization. The Slate River runs right past the campground, providing plenty of water for cooking and drinking.

This campground was not marked as such on any of my maps. Rather, it was just marked with a bathroom symbol. As a result, this area is much more rustic with a very natural appeal.

The river bisects the campground, with half of the sites on one side of the river and half on the other. When we camped here, the ford was closed due to an undercut bank, and the campsites on the opposite side of the river were closed. While it did keep people from driving their vehicles over there, they nevertheless ignored the signs and hiked their gear in and camped there anyway.

As for my subjective experience, we loved this little campground! Not too far from town, but still so wild and peaceful!
