Description

The Boston Mountain Ranger District is located within the heart of the Boston Mountain range of the Ozarks. This area offers rugged mountain bluffs and spectacular scenery.Step into the past by visiting the three natural-stone cabins and the lodge on White Rock Mountain built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Franklin D. Roosevelt formed the CCC during the Great Depression. Wind, rain, and natural elements caused the deterioration of the buildings over the years. In 1987, a volunteer group, Friends of White Rock, formed and began a project to renovate the structures. With a lot of hard work, the cabins and lodge were restored in 1991. Visitors to White Rock Mountain enjoy scenic views from the cabins.White Rock Mountain is 2,260 feet above sea level and received its name from the appearance of the lichen on the sheer bluffs that look white from a distance. High bluffs surround this area. Please use caution while along the bluff line, especially with small children.

Arguably the best panoramic in the state, particualrly in the fall! But quit a unique area in its own right. consisting of campsites and cabins this area is very clean and quit scenic. There are a number of trails to hike most of which are around the rim of the bluff you are atop. If im not mistaken the Ozark Highland Trail also runs through here. Parents be very careful with children. Unforntunatly a number of people have fallen to their deaths here. You will be warned of this upon entering into the area. There is a great public lookout towards the southwest part of the property, just veer left of the cabins as you enter. For groups, GET A CABIN! These unique cabins were built in the early 1900s and are as rustic as it gets, although you will have running water, showers and electricity. But best of all they are affordable! There are 3 avaliable and can accomodate big groups. Be sure to bring your camera!
