Description
Pine Flat and Cave Springs in scenic Oak Creek Canyon are two of the forest's most popular campgrounds. The scenery is unmatched, the stream is stocked with trout, and if the fishing isn't any good you can always go swimming, hiking or birdwatching. Add to that the fact that Slide Rock State Park (listed in Life Magazine as one of the nation's ten best swimming holes) and the thriving resort town of Sedona are only a short drive away and you can see why this area is so popular.Campsites are located in a shady stand of ponderosa pines in the upper reaches of the canyon. Many of the campsites in each campground are located right on the banks of Oak Creek. None are very far from it. There are several hiking trails in the vicinity. Some lead up the canyon slopes to offer good views of the surrounding scenery. The creek is bordered with paths that lead along its picturesque course offering great bird watching and good fishing.Activities

However, my husband and I went just the two of us....the campsites are entirely too close together - no privacy! Also, they charge $4 for an 8 min shower...on top of the $20 you pay for your campsite. Also, the bathrooms (vault toilets) were fairly close to our campsite so it smelled horrible! The owners were really nice...I just feel this is a place for families rather than couples.

(1 out of 1 members found this review useful.) Reply to ReviewBeen camping at Cave Springs for the last 6 years and enjoyed this place. Fun and friendly hosts (old guy and wife). This year (2009) the campgrounds have become too crowded with some loud ones. 2 new campground hosts (middle-aged man & woman) are just very abrasive on their approach to people. Instead of explaining to new campers their groundrules in a nice way, their approach is very unfriendly turning peeple off and away! They are "hosts" for crying out loud. I feel bad for the old guy - he is really nice and truly the ideal "host". May not be going back to this site anytime soon (yeah after 6 long years) or again. With the crowd increase also came an increase of skunks present in the campgrounds. This used to not be the case but 7-8 skunks hovering at your site? Night campfires are fun no more!
