Description

Chester State Park rests in the quiet hills of the South Carolina Piedmont.

The park's 523 acres include a 160-acre lake, itself surrounded by a two-mile nature trail through the pine forest. Jon boat rentals are popular in the warmer months and the park also offers picnicking, camping, archery and a place to simply enjoy the serenity of the placid setting.

The Civilian Conservation Corps built the park and its work can still be seen and enjoyed today. The community building is heavily used year-round, adding to the secluded park's value as a place to both gather and get away.

Chester State Park is a nice campground geared mainly for small RV’s and campers. A 33 foot RV is about the limit but some sites can only accommodate a 28 footer. Call ahead for more information: (803) 385-2680.

Tent campers are welcome and I would suggest reserving a site on the outside of the camping loop. Sites #14 and #16 are my favorites.

Don’t expect any privacy between sites. The camping loop is very open.

Enjoy the 1.3 mile Caney Fork Creek Nature Trail that goes around the lake and rent a jon boat for touring the lake itself. Both are great activities for the whole family.

Group camping (up to 50 campers) is available. See provided link at the top of this campground listing for more information.

I am awarding only 4 stars for this campground based only on the lack of privacy between sites. If this one drawback is not an issue with you, by all means give Chester State Park a try.
