Description

This is a high mountain lake campground, 4800 feet, and is set up for tents only. The major activities are: Camping, fishing photography and hiking. Wonderful views of the Three Sisters over this quiet mountain lake are photo perfect. The use of this camp is moderate. Access to Mt. Washington Wilderness is in close proximity. I found this site in Rays Guides, Free Campgrounds in Oregon State.

This place is spectacular! Although it was raining, the camping trip was great! The view from camp was great and the beaches along the shores are sandy. We took the Scott Lake Road all the way to the end and then walked down the start of Hand Lake Trail and took the first right hand spur off the trail. There are designated camping spots with fire rings. If you walk further down the trail there are more spots and another lake to camp around. The spots are large. There is no water or garbage, so be prepared. Also there are at least 3 vault toilets: one near the start of Scott Lake Road, one near the end, and one inward on the Hand Lake Trail.

We took an afternoon and hiked up to Benson Lake. The fishing there was pretty good, and there are designated hike in camping spots up that way too. The fishing in Scott Lake was not too good at all, but it would make a good swimming lake if it were warm outside.

If you like to car camp but want a taste of something a little more rugged this is your spot. You can't see your car in the camping spots, but you are always close enough to walk back if you really need something.
