Description
Cherry Creek is located along one of the most scenic parts of the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic By-Way. The campground is located along Highway 15 and is surrounded by dense mixed conifer. It is a cool place in the summer for people to enjoy a day's outing or for those wishing to camp overnight. If there has been a little snow during the winter, you will find a trickle of water in the small stream that runs through the campground. In the Autumn hillsides turn into a beautiful mosaic of golden aspens, rusty oaks, and bright red sumac.Directions

ATVATV travel is not allowed within the campground.BikingTadpole Ridge Trail 232 and Signal Peak Trail 742 are two miles north of the campground. Both are great biking trails.HikingTadpole Ridge Trail 232 and Signal Peak Trail 742 are two miles north of the campground.HuntingHunting is not allowed within the campground area.Interpretive SitesThe Arrastra Interpretive Site is approximately 2 miles south of Cherry Creek Campground along NM Hwy. 15. The site informs visitors of early gold mining and milling methods.Scenic DrivesThe campground is located along the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway. The Byway is a beautiful drive through a varied landscape. The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is also located along the Byway, approximately 25 miles north of Cherry Creek.Wildlife WatchingSpring brings the Red-faced Warblers. Then come species including the Flammulated Owl, Common Poorwill, Whip-poor-will, Whitethroated Swift, Greater Pewee, Painted Redstart, Virginia's Warbler and Hepatic Tanger. Habitat is deciduous and coniferous riparian woodland and ponderosa pine forest.Guidebooks

Vault toilets, picnic tables, BBQ grills, fire rings. No wood available in the area. You will either have to bring wood from somewhere else or you can use charcoal or propane. It is possible that Cherry Creek that runs in front of the campground could get high water during periods of heavy rain. Not recommended for RV's over 17 feet .Reservation info
