Description

There is a maximum of eight campers to a site and a maximum of 14 days continuous use. Campfires are restricted to fire rings.

Pine Hills is located approximately 12 miles west of Jonesboro, Illinois and one-quarter mile east of Wolf Lake, Illinois. It can be accessed from Illinois Route 3 at Wolf Lake or from Illinois Route 127 North from Jonesboro, Illinois.

Activities

Fishing: Two small stocked ponds for bank fishing are within a short walking distance of the campground. Fishing is also available in the LaRue Scatters and Winter‚Äôs Pond.Hiking: A trailhead for the White Pine Trail is located inside the campground. This 2 mile trail is open to hiking and horse back riding. Several short trails are located in the Pine Hills area. Pine Hills campground is located a few miles from the Clear Springs Wilderness Area which offers access to the River to River Trail.Photography and Sightseeing:The LaRue-Pine Hills Research Natural Area is a nature lover‚Äôs dream offering beautiful colors during the fall, budding and blooming plants in the spring and opportunities to photograph many species of reptiles and amphibians along the ‚Äúsnake road‚Äù at the base of the 350 feet bluffs during their spring and fall migrations.Hunting: The area is abundant with white-tail deer, wild turkey and squirrels. LaRue Swamp is a resting place along the Mississippi flyway for ducks.Winter Use: Mild southern Illinois winters allow visitors the opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors without heat, humidity and pesky insects.
