Description
Grout Pond Recreation Area is sixteen hundred acres of the Green Mountain National Forest set aside for recreation. Grout Pond is very popular for camping, hiking, canoeing, and fishing. It is open year-round and no camp fee is required, donations are accepted at the lower parking area bulletin board. Donations are utilized solely for Grout Pond Recreation Area. A Green Mountain National Forest campground host is available from Memorial Day to Labor Day to assist visitors and answer questions. Due to the high amount of use and the effects on the surrounding environment, camping is allowed in designated sites only. Please use pads and platforms provided. Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis.Directions
From Route 7 in Arlington, take the Arlington exit and turn west on Rte 313 at the end of the exit ramp. Take the first right onto South Road and follow to the end. Turn right onto Kansas Road and follow over Rte. 7 and over a one-lane bridge. After the bridge turn right and travel east on the Kelley Stand Road (aka: Stratton-Arlington Road) for about 10.2 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road 262 and follow to the end.From Route 100 in West Wardsboro, travel west on the Stratton-Arlington Road (aka: Kelley Stand Road) for about 6.0 miles and turn left onto Forest Road 262. There is a cabin available when it is not occupied by the campground host or by work crews. The cabin’s main room has a fireplace, and there is a separate bunkroom with a woodstove. Near the cabin there are 6 vehicle accessible campsites, an open day-use area, and a barrier-free vault toilet. Down near the parking area there are another barrier-free vault toilet, a hand pump for drinking water, a 200-foot boat portage with an unloading area, and 5 day-use picnic areas with grills. At various locations along the northeastern shore of the pond there are 11 campsites (2 of which are shelters, each sleeping 6) and a day-use picnic site. All campsites are walk-in, however, 7 of these campsites can be reached by boat, and site #1 is wheelchair accessible with assistance. Each campsite has a picnic table, a tent platform or pad, and a fire ring. Plenty of hiking opportunities also exist with over 10 miles of trails, marked with blue diamonds.Reservation info
