Reviews of Mouth of Two Hearted River State Forest Campground

There are two loops at the Two-Hearted River State Forest Campground. The first has 25 sites, a few along the banks of the famous river. The rest, including four easily accessable walk-in sites are on the back loop. The first loop is actually a little more private, but none of the sites are secluded from each other. The swing bridge that spans across the river takes you to the shores of Lake Michigan, and the view is spectacular.
If you fish, you won't be disappointed. If you canoe or kayak, you'll be in heaven.
The one drawback to this place is that it is close to an ATV trail, so it's not unusual to see ATVs racing through the campground on occassion. The North Country Trail passes right through the campground for hiking opportunities, and there is a short trail in the second loop that leads to a bench and a scenic overlook. The Two-Hearted is designated a wilderness river upstream from the weir, so motorboats are not allowed, which adds to the charm and popularity of the campground.
