Eight Corps recreation areas are located along the 152-mile waterway, which offers excellent boating, bass fishing, biking, wildlife viewing, and waterfowl hunting. This convenient commercial link with the Florida coast also offers recreational boaters protected waters, peaceful anchorages, and pleasant shore stops. The Corps manages campgrounds at three of its five locks along the waterway, as well as boat-in camping areas available at St. Lucie Lock and the W.P. Franklin Lock. Day use areas provide visitors with the opportunity to fish, picnic, swim, hike, or bike.Facilities such as boat ramps, playgrounds, and picnic shelters provide an excellent setting for a family get together or a day of rest and relaxation in the balmy, subtropical South Florida climate.
