OK. I am meticulous and take care of my equipment. I have had this filter for more than 10 years. Actually I have the PUR base and not the Katadyn base. (Katadyn bought the design from PUR a few years ago.) Take good care of the base unit and filter and they will last forever. After each trip/use, I follow the recommended cleaning instructions. The filter is a “standard” and readily available for replacement, if necessary. I don’t mind carrying the weight; it is utterly reliable and gives you “on demand” pure water.

Lightweight and durable water filter that's easy to use. The thing seems to do its job as I haven't gotten sick from any water on the trail yet (fingers crossed!)
