I actually own the GPSMap 60Cx which as far as I know has been discontinued but it's very similar (the GPSMap 60Cx only lacks the digital compass and barometric altimeter). The color screen is brilliant and easy to read in all light conditions. The unit is powered by AA batteries which was annoying at first (I was hoping it would be rechargeable) but for long, remote trips batteries are the only way to go. Plus you get an amazing amount of run time out of those 2 little batteries so I can't complain. The included base maps are pretty limited so you'll also want to pick up Garmin MapSource Topo edition if you do a lot of backpacking or hiking to get the most out of this unit. With even more software you can get this baby to do turn by turn driving directions but I haven't tried that myself yet. Highly recommended.Latest from the blog
